Welcome

Friends, colleagues, and supporters,

This is a year of transformation and great progress at ICA. After 10 years, our friend and leader, Jose Corona, has moved on to take a position with the City of Oakland. His transition represents an opportunity for him to further his personal mission of making Oakland a great place for everyone to live, work, play, and feel proud. It also provides a critical time for the ICA team to reflect on what has gotten us this far, and what will help us improve our work for Bay Area entrepreneurs.

I first joined the ICA family in 2006, where I was given the opportunity to work on the front lines with some of the most inspiring entrepreneurs I would ever meet. Now, as Interim CEO of ICA, and President & Managing Director of Fund Good Jobs, I’m fortunate to be a part of two dynamic organizations driving toward the same mission: creating good jobs for those who need them most.

Our joint mission has attracted some of the most talented and passionate minds that I have had the pleasure to work with. This best-in-class team of staff, board members, and advisors has innovated the sector around us and allowed our organizations to learn and refine an approach that is both effective and responsive to our community’s changing needs.

This Impact Report comes at a great turning point in ICA’s evolution. Over the years, our team has had tremendous success in scaling companies and preparing entrepreneurs to invest in their teams as well as their operations. However, as a team that embraces new challenges, we are constantly asking ourselves if what we are doing, and how we are doing it, is the best way to address our mission. Are we doing enough? Are we having the greatest impact? What can we do better?

While our mission remains the same, our model evolves in answer to these questions.

Our mission is possible because of our strong vision for change in the Bay Area economy. We believe economic growth should benefit all. Today, we are clearer than ever on how to build good businesses that create good jobs and contribute to thriving communities. The 2015 impact platform presents both the outcomes of our work and the evolution in our thinking. Thanks to the hard work of every person on the ICA and Fund Good Jobs teams, I have no question that the momentum is on our side, and that we are poised to scale our impact.
